ADO Bus Schedule from the Cancun Airport to Playa Del Carmen

Cancun Airport to Playa Del Carmen
These are what the ADO buses look like at the Cancun Airport.

ADO Bus Schedule from the Cancun Airport to Playa Del Carmen

Going to the Cancun Airport from Playa Del Carmen is fairly easy. You can make this trip in three ways.

  1. ADO Bus
  2. Private transfer
  3. Taxi

If you are traveling solo or just two people, it can make sense to take the ADO bus. But the private transfer companies can be very good deal for you especially if your hotel is not in the center of Playa Del Carmen and you need to take a taxi from the bus to your hotel, adding to your cost and time.

Also, if you are arriving late into Cancun and don’t want to miss the bus, it is good to book a transfer so you are sure to have a driver waiting for you and you can easily get to your hotel. Below is a link to a reputable company that many of our readers like and they have the best prices (see sample prices at the end of the article).

  1. Dear ABO,

What is the cost to ride from Cancun airport on May 2nd AM to Sandos Carocol for 2 adults and 2 kids? Please and thank you.

  2. Hi . How much cost travel with ADO bus from Cancun airport to Playa del carmen ? I coul,t find it .
    Thanks

    • Thanks for your question. We have added it to the article now. Here is what it is: “The price fluctuates a little but it is currently 162 pesos each way.”

  3. I notice on the ADO bus site that if you prebuy a certain time you can get a ticket as low as 79 pesos instead of 162. Do you know if you book a later time but there is a bus earlier would you be able to use the ticket or is it very specific to the time you pick? Correspondingly if you miss your time can you hop on the next bus?
    Thanks

    • Hello, They sometimes have sales on the website and this is only available on the ADO bus website. The problem is most international customers outside of Mexico cannot buy them because usually the website only accepts Mexican credit cards. Regarding your timed bus ticket from the Cancun Airport to Playa, occasionally they have allowed passengers to get on before their actual time but in general the answer is to use only the ticket you have for your scheduled time. That is why we say in one article it is not really good to try to buy them ahead of time because you never know how long it will take to go through immigration and customs. Sometimes it takes a hour and sometimes your flight is late. That half price ticket might end up costing you 50% more than normal. We only recommend buying a bus ticket in advance when you are going back to the airport because you are more in control of getting the bus station on time. This is one advantage to the private transfers because if your flight is late or you take longer, they are waiting for you. If you have three people or more these transfers can be a good deal and might be better than the bus. We hope you have a good trip and your transportation to and from the airport goes well.

    • This is our seconds response just to give you more details. The ADO bus driver does not always know how many at the next stop will be getting on the bus. So he cannot allow people that have a bus ticket for an earlier or later bus to ride. There are three terminals at the Cancun airport and all three have pickups. The busses sometimes stop in Puerto Morelos but usualy no one gets on here, so it is more about the other airport stops. So again, it is not good to buy the airport bus ticket in advance. Only when you return to the airport.

  4. Hello, where can I buy a ticket for the bus ride from Cancun Airport to Playa del Carmen. Thanks in advance for your help.

    • Thank you Kevin. We try each day to make is more user friendly and we have a lot more ideas so people can discover even more here. We know how it can be intimidating if you don’t speak the language. One good thing here is how friendly the people are and how accustomed they are will helping tourist. We hope you have fun on vacation here!

  5. I agree. Great ADO info here — and current! I have searched a long time today for ADO info in Quintana Roo. Can’t make a flight rez home from Cancun until I know what the drill is getting to Cancun from Tulum early in the morning. Now I know. Thank you!

  6. As of August 23, 2016, the first ADO bus from Playa to the airport departs at 4:30 a.m., then 5:30 (Juarez station).

  7. Seasonal ADO schedule?

Does the ADO schedule from Cancun Airport to Playa Del Carmen have a seasonal schedule at the moment or is schedule on your website of 22:15, 23:00 and the last bus at 23.50 correct?

My friends arrived last night only to be told the last ADO left at 21:00, and they had to get a taxi and then a collective to get down to Playa Del Carmen.

I am going to join them next Monday (Oct 10/16) and I wish to know if I have to do the same as them.

Also, is there still an ATM in the Mera Restaurante?

    Thanks,
    dgap

    • Hello. The ADO bus schedule from the Cancun Airport to Playa Del Carmen is not seasonal. The schedule does change from time to time but what we think happened last night is someone lied to your friends to get them in a cab. We checked the ADO website today and our article is still correct with the times of departure.
On another note, why did the taxi not take them directly to their hotel? Why did they have to take a colectivo to get to the downtown of Playa Del Carmen? This all sounds fishy. This is why we recommend pre booking a private transfer or taking the bus.
We hope you arrive and get your transportation without issues. Normally there are not any issues like this at the Cancun Airport.

  8. 1. Thank you for confirming the ADO schedules.

    2. On my other question – is there still a Santander bank ATM near the Mera Restaurante or other ATMs in the airport, either in or near Terminal 3 where I believe my AA flight will disembark?

    – dgap

  9. Awesome site. My plane arrives at 11PM in Cancun and I am trying to get to Playa Del Carmen. Is there a possibility that I miss the last ADO bus?

    • Hello Brian. Is your flight international or domestic? This will affect your transit time in the Cancun Airport. Are you checking bags? If you fly domestic and check a bag and you land on time, you should get our of the airport at 11:37pm. If you are flying international and get in a long immigration line it can mean you will get out at 11:50 when the last bus is. So there you have it. It is up to you if you want to book a private transfer or try to catch the bus. Taxis at that hour might charge you whatever they think since they know it is the only option.

  10. Hi, when buying ado tickets at the Cancun airport for the trip to Playa del Carmen, do the tickets sell out? I am arriving in Cancun at 14:49 on Saturday October 29 and plan on about an hour to get through customs. After traveling all day, I would hope to get on the “next bus out” and would not want to face long delays because the next 6 buses are sold out. What do you think would be normal of a Saturday late in October?

    • Hello William

You should be fine getting the next bus out of the Cancun Airport. We only mention it in our guide for Cancun Airport transportation because the tickets are timed and you cannot really buy ahead of time. But usually the busses are not full leaving the airport. You should not have a problem. We hope you have a great trip to Mexico!

  11. Thank you for the excellent information your site provides I am traveling to playa del carmen soon and was totally amazed at how well your site detailed the buses available i only wish all places in the world had your degree of excellent information

    • Thank you Brian. We try but always want to do more. We have traveled the world and now what it is like to arrive in a country and not have good information or information that is up to date. If there is anything you need, just send us an email or message here. It is hard to give customized information to people in a broad website. The search button will help you find some of the hundreds of articles we have and maybe give you ideas as well.

  12. I am traveling to Tulum from Cancun airport. I intend on taking the ADO to PDC, which only stops at the terminal at 5th. I’ve been told that I need to go to the Juarez terminal to continue on to Tulum. Do buses go to Tulum from both stations? And if so, what is the difference between the buses? Thanks

    • Hello Mike

The Juarez Avenue ADO is the same as the 5th Avenue Bus Station. It is just on the corner of Juarez and 5th Avenue so people call it either name. The ADO bus from the Cancun airport will arrive at the station and then in the same station you will catch the bus to Tulum. So there is no need to go to the other bus station in Playa Del Carmen which is on 20th Avenue and 12th Street.

  13. I’m sorry. I meant the other station. The person who told me to change stations told me that the busses are nicer out of the other station. Is this true? Thank you for your response. This is a great website! I’ve already recommended it to other people.

    • This information would be incorrect. The buses that go to Tulum leave from the 5th Avenue station and are the same ADO buses. They must be confused with the colectivos or Mayab busses. Mayab is a third class bus that does leave from both stations but only tourist that do not know better get on them. They are mainly for people that work along the routes or absolutely need the cheapest fare. We don’t really mention them because they don’t apply to most people reading the site.

  14. Bonjour Mr.Yucatan, On the ADO website, it says that there are no service on Dec. 24. Is it already fully booked? We are 2 and will need transportation for around 10am-11am. Many thanks! 🙂

    • I looked at the ADO site and it looks like half of the days in December offer no service. This looks like a mistake on their “new” website. I would check back later and see if they have updates this. ADO’s website often has issues.

    • Puerto Morelos only has busses passing through it. So you will need to go to Playa Del Carmen and get a bus from there. There are long haul busses that do the route. There are even overnight busses which we recommend because you can get some sleep while you pass the time.

  15. Hi there 🙂 Thank you for this amazing website, most helpful site i found.
I will arrive on the 8th of December at 8:25pm in Cancun and my plan is to take the bus to PDC. On the new ADO homepage it says that on this day there are only 2 busses, one at 5:45pm and the other one at 08:00pm. Can you tell me if they really changed their offers or if it’s just a problem with their new homepage?
    Thanks a lot 🙂

    • Hello Chris

We just took a look at the ADO website and it is working normally now and shows all the schedules. ADO often has issues with the website. Since the bus transportation is so important we could not imagine there would only be two busses at that time leaving the Cancun Airport. We hope you have a great trip here.

    • Hello Mike

ADO accepts USD but only small bills. Do try to use a 50 or 100 note. Change will be in pesos. There are some ATM’s at the airport if you wish to get pesos but if you only need to get a bus ticket, it is easy to pay in USD. At other ADO bus stations they actually take dollars as well. It is at a good exchange rate too.

  16. Hi Mike,
    Appreciate all the great info.
My question is re Interjet. It is quite far from the bus terminal at Cancun Airport. Does the bus from Playa to airport drop you off at their entrance if you request same.
It would save 15 min.of hauling luggage!

  17. Hola I’m looking at the ADO website for ticket from CUN to P.D.C. and I see there are ADO buses and AU buses, which are a little less money. What is the difference? Your website is invaluable and I will be using it constantly for my 1-month stay in P.D.C. …Gracias!

    • Hello Skip

Well wouldn’t you know it, we went to the ADO website and it is not working right now. That is no surprise. It often has issues. So you are seeing two bus type from Cancun Airport to Playa Del Carmen? There has always been just the regular bus that does that route. It should have no meaning and probably is no price difference. It is probably just a glitch in their system. Just buy your ticket when you arrive at the airport and proceed to Playa like you normally would. We hope you have a smooth transfer and good vacation in Playa Del Carmen.

    • Hello. Yes, according to their website they have service. This is such an important link between the Cancun Airport and Playa Del Carmen that the busses need to run to serve the tourist needs. We hope your had a good vacation or are going to have a great vacation.

    • Hello Dante

Yes, they can drop you off at your rental or home. It is a nice private van service and good to use.

  18. We are gonna be traveling to mahahual in February
We would like to take the bus from the airport to
playa del Carmen then to mahahual. Can you tell me about what it will cost? And which station we need to go to?
    Thank you

    • Hello Trista

The ADO from the Airport will cost about 164 pesos and the bus to Mahahual will cost between 250/342 depending on what bus you get. The bus to Mahahual should leave from the ADO Station on Juarez and 5th Avenue but it is always good to check because they change them from time to time. You should note there are only three busses a day from Playa to Mahahual, 8:10. 5:45. 11:30pm. So there is not a lot of options and you will be traveling for at least 5 hours once you get on the bus from the airport so you might want to stop in Playa or Tulum to break up your trip and have a better arrival time in Mahahual.

  19. Is there a way to purchase ADO bus tickets from the USA before our trip? Are the buses generally full on Monday evening and Sunday afternoons? We’re 4 persons arriving Cancun airport on 2/6 at about 4:30; taking ADO bus to PDC and then ferry to Cozumel. Two are returning for 5 p.m. flight on Sunday, Feb 12. Other two on Wed, 2/22. Should we just plan on buying tickets on the bus in Cancun and then at the 5th and Juarez terminal on the way back? Thanks for your assistance.

    • The ADO bus website does not usually accept foreign credit cards and the tickets are timed, so you might be late getting into Cancun Airport or the customs might take longer. It is best if you just buy them when you arrive. The busses are not usually full so that is not a worry. The other option is booking a private transfer since you have four people. This is more with the exchange rate but a nice service that will make for an easy arrival and a speedy way to the Cozumel Ferry Pier. We hope you have a great trip!

  20. We are travelling from the cancun airport and need to go to the ferry to Cozumel in pdc. Is the ADO bus the best way to get there? We will a one very large bag with a bicycle in it and other luggage, what would you recommend.

    • We have a whole article on getting from the Cancun Airport to Cozumel here: https://everythingplayadelcarmen.com/cancun-airport-to-cozumel/
Both the ADO bus to Playa and then taking a bike taxi to the ferry since you have a big bike bag or taking the private transfer are good options. The private transfer can drop you about two blocks away from the ferry which is about equal distance as the bus station. In both cases you can get a bike taxi to carry your bag.

    • Hello Deborah

You can purchase with credit cards tickets at the ADO bus station. They also accept USD at a fairly good exchange rate.

  21. Hi, how many busses per day are there between PDC and Puerto Morelos (as of Feb. 2017)?
Are there more on the weekends?

Same questions for the USA vans.

Is there a ADO online schedule in English?

    Thanks!

    • There are many busses between Playa Del Carmen and Puerto Morelos daily. There are ADO buses about every hour. The same schedule is for the weekdays and weekends. There is no ADO bus information in English. It is why we try to provide as much as possible on our website.
The airport transportation vans run all the time and are available for whenever someone needs to go to and from the airport. It is however good to book ahead because they need to plan out their drivers ahead of the next day.

  22. The ADO bus schedule is saying 65 pesos (just under $4.00 US) for
the fare from Cancun Airport to Playa del Carmen.

And the ‘USA’ vans are about $110.00 US

Are those up to date as us Feb. 10th 2017?
And why such a large price difference?

    Thanks

    • The current ADO price is about 178 pesos. This is still cheap. You might be looking at the Cancun downtown to Playa Del Carmen ADO bus price which is 65 pesos. There still is a big difference. Part of the spread is the exchange rate and how it has changed. ADO reflects pesos and transportation usually leaves it in USD. There is also the convenience factor. The ADO and a private transfer are like taking a limo and a bike. ADO is air conditioned and takes about one hour. However a private transfer will be waiting for you and takes you direct to your hotel. If you stay at a hotel outside of Playa or not near the drop off point of ADO, you still need to take a taxi. For many that fly 5-10 hours to Cancun for vacation, they prefer to take a private transfer to their hotel. We like to give all options so people can choose what they like.

    • Hello Kim

The ADO bus only goes to the bus station on Juarez Avenue. From there you need to walk or take a taxi to your hotel. That is why we also recommend the transportation company with private transfers that will take you directly to your hotel if you want that service. We hope you have a great vacation here.

    • Hello Bryce

Online you often can not buy ADO with a US credit card because of their system but at the Cancun Airport you can.

  23. If we take the ADO bus from Cancun airport to Playa del Carmen, will the driver drop us at Cirque du Soleil on the highway near Mayan Palace, if we ask him?

    • Hello Sheila

The ADO bus only stops at Puerto Morelos and Playa Del Carmen. There are no other stops allowed. It is best if you take a private transportation to your hotel. If the bus made stops it would take forever to get to Playa Del Carmen. The most direct is having a driver waiting for you and taking you to your hotel.

  24. Hi,

Is there an ADO Bus i can take from Tulum to Coba ruins and back to Tulum? if so what are the bus schedule?

    thank you

    • Yes. The bus does stop along the highway in Puerto Morelos on the west side and picks up people for Playa Del Carmen. Just note that most people stay in Puerto Morelos near the beach, which is 3 kilometers from the highway, so you will need to get to the highway from where you are staying. The ADO bus stop is just south of the traffic circle under the highway overpass. You will see a gas station and just south of there is where the bus stops.

  25. Hi,

A group of 7 of us are not staying at a resort but an Airbnb in Playa Del Carmen. How do we book a private transfer service to pick up from the Cancun airport and drop off at our Airbnb location in Playa?

    Thanks!

    • Hello Taylor

Thanks so much for reading the website and sending us a question. We love helping out our readers. Here is one transfer company that has great rates and also is one our readers like a lot. They will take you to any rental or airbnb. You just have to send them a note in the reservation. https://everythingplayadelcarmen.com/cancun-airport-transfers/
We hope you have a great vacation and let us know if you need anything else.

  26. Hi there, I was wondering what would be the cheapest and quickest way to get to playa del carmen from the airport if my flight will be landing at 5am? Cheers!

    • Well you would have to wait a while for the ADO bus. We would recommend the private transfer. Just make sure you book in advance so they are there waiting for you. We recommend the one in this article because they offer good prices and service. We have never had a complaint about them! So that speaks a lot about them.

  27. Hello I will come to Cancun with with 3 adults ans 1 children ( 3 years) we will going to Playa del carmen (Lunada condominiums) car u tell me what is the best to go in this adress from Cancun airport ?

  28. I arrived at Terminal 3 at around 23:00 due to 3 hours delay in Miami and by the time I got out of the airport building, it was at around 23:40 on July 6, 2017. I checked ADO website and it said there was 23:50.
Nope!! 23:50 bus never showed up. I had to take a taxi that they charged US$100. Luckily I found someone who would go to ADO bus station in downtown Cancun. I shared a taxi with him and paid 200 pesos as my share. Then I took a colectivo to Playa del Carmen. I live in Playa and I am familiar with colectivos but I don’t recommend this for first timer. By the time I got home in Playa, it was almost 2am.

    • Unfortunately ADO schedules do not have the times for all three terminals. Since there are three stops the bus could of already come and was leaving from another terminal at the scheduled time. Sorry to hear you had such a time getting home.

  29. Hi, you mentioned “The ADO bus only goes to the bus station on Juarez Avenue”, so the ADO bus doesn’t go to Alterna bus terminal, is that correct?

    • Coming from the Cancun Airport the ADO bus only goes to the Juarez station. It does not continue over to the other one. Go to the airport, the bus starts in Juarez ADO station and then stops at the other one.

  30. Could you please let me know, if it’s safe to walk from the ADO bus station (5th Avenue and Juarez) to the Ko’ox City Garden Hotel at about 7:30 pm or if I’d have to take a taxi from the bus station.
    Thanks in advance!

    • Yes it is safe. It will take you about 15 minutes to walk it. You can walk on 5th Avenue which is a pedestrian street. Many people will be out since that is the main tourist area. We hope you have a great time here!

  31. I have a flight leaving from Cancun Airport at 17:30 on Christmas day (December 25). Will ADO bus from Playa del Carmen to the airport run on the regular schedule? Also, will the traffic be worse (or better) on Christmas day?

    Thanks in advance.

    • ADO does work on Christmas day. Traffic is pretty normal. Many people are here already but people do travel that day.

  32. I just called Southwest Airlines and asked which terminal they use at Cancun (CUN). They told me Terminal 2 for arrivals and departures. I just wanted to share that since your guide show Southwest at T4.

  33. Hello, I am so confused. First timer here! My family and I are flying into Cancun and then we need to get to Cozumel.
Its cheaper for us to take the bus to the ferry and then get a taxi or bus in Cozumel.
Once we get outside the airport, how do I know which bus to take to get us to the ferry? Once I get to the ferry area, I walk to the ferry correct?
I want to make sure I”m doing this correctly as I am traveling with my children and don’t want to make this any more difficult then I already am 🙂
    thanks for all your help

    • Hello Audra

Just a few clarifications. You will take the ADO bus to Playa Del Carmen. There is no bus to the ferry from the Cancun Airport although the bus stop is close to the ferry. From the bus station you walk to the ferry and take it across. When you arrive in Cozumel you will take a taxi to your hotel. One article that might help you and one option is a private van for all your family from Cancun Airport to the Ferry Pier in Playa. This is something you should book in advance if you want to do it. https://everythingplayadelcarmen.com/cancun-airport-to-cozumel/

    • According to their website, there are two daily busses from Playa Del Carmen to Belize City. They cost 766 pesos each and leave at 8:55am and 23:40pm.

  34. Hi there. This is a great resource, so I thank you, first of all.
We wonder if a ticket can be purchased at the airport to Playa del Carmen and a second ticket purchased for a transfer to Tulum. Would we have to buy our second ticket in Playa del Carmen, or is it possible to purchase both at the airport? Also, are Canadian credit cards accepted yet, or only cash? Thank you!

    • You should be able to buy your ticket at the airport because they have a computer linked system, but, this is Mexico and it might not work. If that happens it is easy to buy a ticket in Playa and board a soon departing bus.

  35. We will be travelling to Tulum at the end of this month. We plan to take the ADO from Cancun Airport. Once we get to PDC, is the Tulum bus at the same ADO terminal or do we have to go to another bus terminal to go to Tulum?

    • Hello Barbara
The ADO bus to Tulum will be in the same terminal. You can buy your ticket there or ask in the airport if they can sell it to you. One option is arrive in Playa and have lunch and then take a bus on an hour or so. This way it breaks up your trip. The whole trip from the airport to Tulum is about 2 hours. One option is this local restaurant just a few blocks away. everythingplayadelcarmen.com/la-tarraya-seafood-restaurant-review/ The food is decent but cheap margaritas are very nice welcome to Mexico!

  36. i will be taking someone to airport on the ado from playa del carmin but i need to return to playa del carmin after getting person to plane. is there a booth to purchase return ticket or should i purchase round trip ticket for myself in playa?

    • It might be easier to buy your return if you know you will be leaving shortly after your drop them off. That way you have your ticket. Depending on what terminal it is, the pick spot is different from drop off. For example at terminal 3 you have to go through a security checkpoint to get to the arrivals side where the bus picks you up. If you already have your ticket they will not question you.

  37. hello,
We’ll be arriving at Cancun airport on Sat 31.03.2018, which is the Great Saturday, and I would like to ask if the buses run according to the regular schedule during this period? Thnak you in advance. Reagrds

    • Yes, on all holidays the busses run on the schedule. We hope you have a nice flight down and enjoy your vacation here.

  38. Why do you keep saying “we” throughout your entire site? You are Mr. Yucatan, right? You are an individual? We = plural. I = singular. Annoying.

    • The term we is used because there are more then just one person working on the site. The opinions and suggestions of everyone ar pretty much shared in the things we write. Albeit on person writing usually and speaking in the video.

  39. Hola! I am traveling to Mexico for the first time and solo. I land at Cancun airport at 7am and need to take the ADO bus to Tulum. I tried looking at the schedule on the ADO website and it said the first bus from CANCUN to TULUM is 11:05 a.m.?? But the schedule you posted says 8:30am. I’m so confused. Also how long is the wait between buses for PDC to Tulum?

    • There are limited direct busses to Tulum. So our schedule posted here is from Cancun Airport to Playa Del Carmen. You can take this bus and get another ticket from Playa to Tulum. The busses between Playa and Tulum leave about every 3 hours. It will be about a 2.5 hour transfer from the Airport. Depending on where your hotel is in Tulum, you will need to take a taxi as well. This is why many people take a private transfer.

  40. Hi,
How long is the bus ride? My flight leaves at 4 pm on a monday? Thinking of getting on the 5th/Juarez station. Thanks in advance for your help!

    • The bus ride is about one hour and 5 minutes. It will depend on what terminal your stop is but plan for that amount of time.

  41. Does the Ado bus pick up at the Now Jade Resort in Cancun and take you to Puerto Morelos and Playa del Carmen?

  42. what is your daily schedule from cancun airport to tulum? I can only find cancun to playa del carmen. Thank you!!

    • Hello Rachel

First off itnis notnour schedule, you are looking for the ADO bus companies schedule. We only provide infor for people coming to the area. You can find the exact times on their website. ADO.com.mx there are five buses a day from the Cancun Airport to Tulum.

  43. Whats the easiest way to get from Hard Rock Cancun to Playa de Carmen on a Sunday please.? Three people with luggage.

    • It will be a taxi. The colectivos don’t have room for luggage and ADO bus does not stop at the hotel. There is one bus that passes on the highway but not that frequent and you have to get to the highway from the resort. Sona taxi is the best option.

    • Yes but you will need a carrier. Depending on the size the dog might need to go under the bus but that is not always the best situation for your dog.

  44. I/We are coming to Tulum on 15 December 2018. We will be arriving at Terminal 4 at 1535 hrs. I assume that the ADO stand will still be outside Terminal 4? I have downloaded the ADO schedule and it appears that after going through customs that the 1550, 1615 or 1640 buses will be our best option to get to Playa del Carmen and then transfer to the Tulum bus. Is the ADO bus terminal still in Tulum El Centro?

    • Hello

There is an ADO bus astand inside of terminal 4 of the airport. If you go to Playa and switch to the Tulum bus you will go to the center. If your hotel is out of the immediate center you will neeed to take a taxi. Some of the taxis to the hotel zone can be expensive. So one idea is to take a transfer from Cancun Airport to your hotel directly. It will save time and might end up costing similar. Here is a good company if you want to check on it: https://everythingplayadelcarmen.com/tulum-airport/

  45. Hi, I am wondering if the ADO buses will take a wheelchair that folds to be about the size of a folded stroller? Also, how many bags is each person allowed on the ADO buses? Thanks for your help!

    • There is space below the bus for a wheelchair folded up. ADO does have baggage limits per person but this is really never enforced coming from the airport. On other trips ADO has a small fee for extra bags. There will be someone loading them on the bus so if you have a lot a tip is good. You should note though that if you have limited walking, you will need to climb up the stairs onto the bus.

  46. Question: I’m travelling (2 passengers) from Cancun airport to Tulum. Do we need to buy 2 tickets one from cancun to Playa Del Carmen to get off? Then, from Playa Del Carmen to Tulum? Also, does Ado bus accept one small pet to ride during the bus transfer to Tulum? If so, how much extra is it? We are using USD.

    • You might get luck and meet up with one of the few Tulum direct ADO busses. Otherwise you will need to take the bus to Playa and then change to a Tulum bound bus. ADO does accept small pets in carriers but policies are often left up to the driver. You should not that this will take two hours to get to Tulum and if you Hotel is not near the bus station you will need to take a taxi. Taxis in Tulum to the Hote Zone are expensive and this can take another 15-20 minutes to get to your hotel. Not all taxis will take dogs. One option we recommend is a direct to your hotel transfer that also takes pets. https://everythingplayadelcarmen.com/pet-transportation-cancun-airport/

  47. Last night my plane arrived in Cancun at 7:05 pm. I proceeded to go thru customs .. fast . & picked my bag up where it was already waiting. I went directly to the ATM across from Avis .. not working. They directed me out the door left to the next building . When I came out I was told that the ticket stand was closed out there to buy a 10.00 ticket on the big bus to Playa Port. Going to Cozumel. Then several guys said . $100.00 by taxi, as the next bus wasnt leaving until 10:45 pm. Then they said the shuttle was 35.00 .. no guarantees as they would need 14 people before it would leave. Dark, chance your luggage could get stolen.
So .. when I said I just moved to Cozumel .. they or he said he was manager of operations outside the terminal… resident discount 70.00 by taxi. Yes !! Ugh !! We always paid 50.00 in the past. So I said, how much is that ? They said, 1,500.00 pesos !! But, at that point I wanted to go back down the sidewalk to the airport assistance booths to see if it was cheaper. He said no you really can’t . The pressure was on. I took the taxi. In the conversion it came to almost 80.00 or if not more. I told the taxi driver .. he didn’t have much to say.. spoke good English.
Live & Learn. Next time I will be prepared with my funds .. & not be taken on the side lines like that

    • Yes the people outside the airport, mostly taxi drivers, will tell you anything. That is why we recommend a pre booked transfer and not taxis.

  48. Please could you tell me if the stop at Playa del carmen will be at :
ADO terminal turistica,I saw on Google map: crossing Benito Juarez & calle Quinta Avenida

    • Are you talking about a bus arriving from the Cancun Airport to Playa? That bus only stops at Juarez and 5th Avenue stop.

  49. If going to Puerto Aventuras do we take the ADO to Playa del Carmen and then take a 2nd bus? Does the bus stop in Puerto Aventuras or on the highway? Thank you.

    • Hello

You can take the ADO bus to Playa Del Camren and then take a local bus to get off at the highway in Puerto Aventuras. Or you can take the bus to Playa and then a taxi. Both options are not the best though. If you do the first option with both busses, it will take about 1 hour and 45 minutes plus you will need to get from the highway to where you are staying. Most hotels and resorts are in the gated community and you need another taxi. In the second option you can take a taxi from Playa to Puerto Aventuras but it is not cheap. It is about 25 minutes. So you will pay about the same as a private transfer from the Cancun Airport plus more time and hassle. We recommend this transfer service: https://everythingplayadelcarmen.com/cancun-to-puerto-aventuras/

  50. We are scheduled to arrive at Cancun airport at noon on Febrary 8, 2019. We were planning to take the ADI bus from the airport to Playa del Carmen and then a taxi to our Air BnB on CTM 46. Do you know how much the bus is currently? Thank you.

    • The bus is about 208 pesos for each ticket. It varies a little in price. The bus will arrive at Juarez Avenue and then the taxis are outside the station. Since it is a taxi stand they are supposed to charge 5 pesos more then the regular fare but that area is notorious for overcharging.

  51. would like to take the same buses that the people living in Mexico take, isn’t there a very cheap public transportation system from the airport to Central Cancun and from there to Playa del Carmen?

  52. How do I get from the Cancun Airport to the Ferry transfer to Cozumel? Do I have to pre-book? How much does it typically cost?

    • You can take the ADO bus to Playa Del Carmen. The only bus station it goes to is the ADO on 5th Avenue and Juarez Avenue. From there you can walk or take a bike taxi there. It is about 4 blocks away via sidewalk. You don’t need to book a ticket in advance. It is best to board the next ferry available. Since there are several companies that run ferries, it is good to buy the ticket when you arrive since you don’t know exactly when you will get to the pier.

  53. I have an international flight at 10:55am, staying in Playa del Carmen….what time would be best to catch the bus (Sat morning)? and returning 10 days later – would it be advisable to buy a return ticket initially or buy a one way each time?
    Thanks in advance

    • If you left at 8 or 8:30 you would get to the airport at 9:15. That would be the latest you should leave because you need to be there definitely one hour before if checking in. There are strict rules from airlines. A tip is to check in online. If you have baggage to check you should still arrive more than one hour before. Leaving at 7 am will give you a nice comfortable window to relax a the airport. Security is fairly quick and easy there at the airport. We recommend buying a one way since you don’t know the exact time you will exit the airport on your return.

  54. I’ve taken the ADO bus from Cancun Airport to Playa del Carmen at least 3 times now. The last time I did, the 2 women running the stand jacked the price up on me. Then they acted like they didn’t owe me any change after I paid them. Sad that a company like ADO has employees ripping people off at the airport. I’d recommend getting online and printing out their prices the day you are landing so you don’t pay too much.

    • That is bad this happened to you. It is good to check change and ask for it. Most of the people will speak some English or even understand you are upset with incorrect change. The problem with buying online is the tickets are timed and you don’t know when you will arrive exactly for the bus outside fo the airport.

  55. At the Cancun Airport do all buses marked Playa del Carmen go to the Downtown terminal? It is my hope to go from the Cancun Airport Terminal 4 directly to the Playa del Carmen bus terminal on Avendia 20, is this possible?????

    • All buses go to the ADO station in Juarez. You will need to take a taxi from this station to other places in Playa.

  56. Hello, my flight back to Houston out of Cancun is 06:00am, I bought a return ticket to and from Playadelcarmen, checking the schedule is 3am for the first bus from Playa. Now I saw the mention “first bus from playa is 4:45” – what should I do? I need to be at the airport latest 5am

    • Hello Simona

We had the hours of the busses but the first bus tagline has been updated to reflect the first bus to the airport is 3:00am. The ADO website is changing and the are offering busses to different terminals now, so it is not that easy to follow. But basically you can get to the airport at that early time.

  57. I arrived at the Juarez station this morning at 6:20 and was told that the next bus left at 7am. I paid cash and the woman charged me 208 pesos. Later I looked at my ticket and it says 185 pesos. My Spanish is not good so I didn’t try to ask for an explanation for the difference in price.

    • Hello Dennis

We just checked the website of ADO and the current price is 208 pesos to the Cancun Airport. Perhaps you read the ticket price and the tax is listed separate? At any rate, you were not overcharged.

  58. Hello – Can one take the ADO bus from Royal Sunset (in the hotel zone) to the Tres Rios Resort in Riviera Maya? If so, what is the schedule and the cost per person? Thank you!

    • Hello
You cannot take the ADO bus because they do not stop along the highway. Otherwise the trip would take hours with all the hotels and people getting off. Also the entrances to many fo the resorts is up to a kilometer from the highway and you would not be able to walk it. A private transfer is the best way to go. Here is a link to a recommended service: https://everythingplayadelcarmen.com/cancun-private-transfers/

  59. Do all of the Ado busses from 20th go to the airport?
I purchased tickets from Playa Del Carmen and they say Centro. I want to make sure that I bought the correct tickets to get to the airport.
    Great website!
    Thanks

    • All busses from Playa Del Carmen with service to the Cancun Airport will start at Juarez and then stop at 20th Street. It is just now they have had separate terminals of the airport offered in the tickets.

  60. I have been riding the ADO Aueropuerto back and forth from Puerto Morelos to the cancun airport for years. The last time I bought a ticket in Nov. 2019, the agent in the Puerto stop sold me a ticket for the airport and then suddenly said the ADO was no longer in service. I hated to have to take a taxi for the cost, but had to because I had a flight to catch at terminal 4. Was he lying to me or do you not stop in Puerto anymore or are you no longer in service? Please respond. I am flying down to Puerto in just a few weeks and need your great bus service.
    Thank you,
    Sandy Wermerskirchen

    • Hello

This of course is our website and not the ADO bus service. We only have information on them. We just looked at the ADO website and do not see Puerto Morelos listed anymore. We will have to ask at the bus station to confirm this but it does look like they have removed service to there.

  61. Is there a bus that leaves Playa del Carmen for downtown Cancun? I do not wish to go to the airport since I am going for a long weekend to Isla Mujures then returning to PDC. If yes, can you let me know the link and also approximate cost and journey time> Thank you!

    • Yes! There are many ADO busses daily between Cancun downtown and Playa Del Carmen. They leave about every 30 minutes. The cost is around 84 pesos each way.

      • Mr Yucatan. I have looked at the ADO website and their schedule with respect to PDC-Cancun is only for buses going to Cancun airport. Is there a link for buses going downtown only?

        • Hello Isobel

The website is not the most user friendly. You have to select Cancun and then scroll down past the terminal stops to Cancun. Also not all stops are on the ADO website. Which makes no sense.

  62. Hello,
I appreciate all the detailed advice you give here! We are coming to Playa del Carmen this Sat. We are planning to take the ADO from the airport into Playa. Our hotel is a block away from the bus station on 12th and 20th. Does the bus stop there (before or after?) or just at the one on 5th and Juarez? Is it too far to walk from one station to the other?
When we return to the airport, can we get on the bus at 12th and 20th?
Thank you in advance for your help. We are so nervous and excited.

    • Hello Sara

The bus from the airport only goes to Juarez Station. It is fine to walk if you don’t have a lot of bags, it can take about 13 minutes to walk. Going back to the airport busses leave from both bus stations. We hope you have a great trip in Playa!

    • Hello Kevin

According to their website there are buses about every 30 minutes. There is no online schedule from Puerto Morelos, but it is the bus from Playa Del Carmen going to Cancun. Perhaps when you are in Puerto Morelos someone will know the exact timing or you can call the ADO number for schedules.

  63. Please advise me of the weekday morning times that buses heading to the Cancun bus terminal from Playa del Carmen stop at Puerto Morelos. I know where the ADO curbside pick-up point is.

    • Hello Kevin

The ADO leave about every 30 minutes from Playa Del Carmen. For example 8:00, 8:30, 9:00am etc. So they pass about every 30 minutes in Puerto Morelos.

  64. Can someone please tell me what time ADO buses start running in Playa Del Carmen to the airport in Cancun? I need to be at the airport at 8 am.

  65. Can you please direct me on ho to travel by bus from Playa del Carmen to San Pedro Belize?
    Leaving Jan 14 th-Jan 17th 2022.
Can you folks get me into Belize from Chetuma then include the water taxi to San Pedro
    Thanks so much appreciated
    Kevin

    • Hello

We are not the ADO bus company, but we can give you some direction. You will need to take the ADO bus to Chetumal in Quintana Roo Mexico. From there you will go to the boats to San Pedro. You will have to line up your timing to do so.

  66. Hello, I will be arriving to Cancun Airport at 20h, likely out of the airport at 20:45h. Are there still ADO buses running from Cancun Airport to Playa del Carmen at this time?

Also, once I arrive to the PDC ADO bus station, I will need a transfer to my hotel (Hotel Yukon). Is it best to get an Uber once I get to ADO bus station?

Thanks soooo much for your article, you’re putting my mind at ease 🙂

    • Hello Georgia

The ADO buses run about every 30 minutes until 11 and then go once an hour. If you are the Riu Yucatan Hotel, you will need to take a taxi from the bus station. UBER does not operate in Playa Del Carmen so it is not an option.

    • You can just get a ticket when you arrive. The tickets are timed, so you need to know when you arrive and how long it takes to get through the airport first before getting a ticket.

  67. Hi,
We will be arriving in Cancun on Dec 24 around 21:30 and wanted to take the bus to Playa. When I look at the ADO website, there are no options for tickets past 20:00. Is there a reduced bus schedule for Christmas eve? Or are there buses available that don’t show on the site?

    • Normally Christmas has the same schedules as other days since it is a big travel period. We do see the same thing on the ADO website, it looks like 5 buses have been cut at the end of the day. There is a bus after midnight, but you might want to book a private transfer just to make the trip easier.
