Showing puppy love at CEBIAM

CEBIAM (Centro De Bienstar Animal Municipal) is the “dog pound” or animal control  agency of Playa Del Carmen. CEBIAM collects stray dogs off the street and removes pets that are not being cared for in homes. They do a lot for the health of the animals and residents of the city. Recently a group of volunteers has been working with CEBIAM to show some love for the dogs.

Several times a week volunteers go to walk the dogs and spend time with them. Here is everything you need to know about how CEBIAM works, how you can volunteer and information if you would like to adopt a dog from here.

How CEBIAM works

CEBIAM works in several ways for the health of animals and residents of the city. If someone calls CEBIAM and says that a neighbor is not treating an animal well, an inspector will go to the house and see. If the animal is in danger then they remove the pet and take them to CEBIAM.

CEBIAM also collects dogs on the street and take them to the dog pound. Once the animals are at CEBIAM they are given a chance for adoption.

There are many stray dogs and cats in Playa Del Carmen. This is just one agency that is trying to control the population.

How you can adopt a dog at CEBIAM

  1. Bring I.D.
  2. Copy of light or water.
  3. 2 references with name and phone number.
  4. Fill out adoption form.
  5. 350 pesos.

CEBIAM will make sure that your home is suitable for a pet. The dog will get shots and spayed or neutered and then you can take your new dog home.
