Gluay Maai is a Thai restaurant on 38th Street in Playa Del Carmen. This restaurant has outdoor seating surrounded by a lot of plants and a few seats inside. This street is a little calmer then most of 5th Avenue and you should be able to have a slower more relaxed dinner.
With just a few Thai restaurants in Playa, this is a good option for dinner and a little more upscale version (in fact they are only open from 3:00pm-11:00pm). The taste are about as authentic as you can get in Playa. As most people know, it is hard to find all the Asian ingredients here. That is why they grow some of their own ingredients for this restaurant.
Menu at Gluay Maai
Here they have rice dishes, wok dishes, noodles, soups, and salads. You might have to ask about the specialty cocktail here if they are not on the menu. They come up with some very tasty and good quality drinks.
Vegetarian options
There are about 20 vegetarian options on the menu including adding tofu to the dishes. They are very good about letting you know what sauces have fish sauce or what dishes can be made vegetarian. Because they have so many options we have added them to our very large Vegetarian Guide to Playa Del Carmen here.

Our recommendations
There are just a few places to get Thai food in Playa Del Carmen. This is the most upscale option and is a good choice for a night out. This is also the most romantic option for the Thai restaurants. The food is about as authentic as you can get in Playa and should satisfy your cravings. Make sure you try some of their specialty cocktails here, they offer some nice combinations and they are well made. If it is raining, there is umbrella seating and limited seating inside so maybe pick a clear day to eat here.

Did this spot change names? Is the food quality/menu the same?
Were just by this restaurant and all looked the same. We heard from some other readers this past week that they really enjoyed their meal there, so it seems to be still a good choice for Thai food.
