The Tiny Tiki Hut Restaurant
There is a new popular restaurant in town called the Tiny Tiki Hut. It is popular with local expats and tourist for two reasons. One it is homey and comfortable feeling and second it offers tasty Asian/Polynesian food.
For those that spend time in Playa Del Carmen you know it is hard to find good Asian food. The ingredients are not always found in markets and in restaurants it is often dumbed down. Here they have created a tasty menu with good standards that will keep people coming back.
The Tiny Tiki Hut is replacing some of the lost places that local expats liked to hang out at. Places like Mom’s and Wah Wah are gone but this place offers a feel of the old Playa. A sense of community and friendly service will attract a lot of expat locals.
What is the menu at the Tiny Tiki Hut?
The menu is small yet concise with not a bad option. The dishes are small and sharable if you want to. Each item is unique and ordering several things makes for a fun meal of differing taste. Most menu items cost between 30 and 90 pesos each.
Cocktails are also good here. The have the house specialty menu as well as bar menu. Prices for cocktails are very good.
Atmosphere of the restaurant
This is an open restaurant with swirling fans. The palapa (thatched roof) is the perfect atmosphere for a tiki style restaurant and bar. Some nights there is live music here. This can create a lively atmosphere. It might not be good for a romantic night out or conversation but can be fun if you are in the mood for drinks and tasty bites.
Where is the Tiny Tiki Hut?
The restaurant is on 20th Avenue between 4th and 6th Streets. It is the middle of the block. It is fairy east to see since it is a thatched roof restaurant. Parking in this area can be tight so you might have to go around the block a few times to find a spot if you drive.
