Ula Gula Restaurant and Bar is a popular place among repeat visitors to Playa Del Carmen and the local crowd that wants to eat out on 5th Avenue for a special occasion. Ula Gula should be a good restaurant because it is brought to us by the same owners of other popular restaurants in Playa Del Carmen that are also on our list of places we like to go.
Ula Gula serves an international cuisine with a heavy leaning toward Italian if you ask us.(Not that there is anything wrong with that) Prices start to creep up into the higher end restaurant for us but a good value for what you get. Just check out some of the food photos below! Everything that was served was delicious so you cannot really go wrong here. Food is fresh made. They even have fresh pesto which is somewhat of a find in Playa Del Carmen. Even the pita bread with olive oil that they serve on the table was excellent. The bread was a hybrid pita/biscuit that made for a soft bread that was great with the sea salt.
Drinks are well made and average around 80-90 pesos a drink which is about average in Playa. Ula Gula can be just a bar destination as well since it is street level and a good place to hang out and people watch on the famous 5th Avenue.
Service is very attentive. We can imagine though in the evening when there is more of a rush the servers cannot be as attentive, but nonetheless they are trained to give good service.
The only thing that could make this place better is if they had some planter with plants to separate the sidewalk seating from the street and 5th Avenue.
