El Calamar de la 10 Restaurant

We would like to first thank our reader Cheryll for letting us know about this place. She wrote to us about El Calamar de la 10 and said how good it was. So we went to check it out and are reporting back to all of you.

Cheryll was right in saying how good this place is! El Calamar de la 10 is a local seafood restaurant with gourmet taste and good staff. They have a large menu and have been working on finalizing everything that they will have on it.

If you go her you can get a good spot to watch people and passerby’s. We recommend ordering around on the menu and trying a few things so you get a variety or menu items.  Then you can go back and get your favorites the next time.

Where is El Calamar de la 10?

This is a view of the restaurant from the street. You have great people watching from this corner while you enjoy your seafood.

This restaurant is on the corner of CTM Avenue (AKA 46th Street) and 10th Avenue. This is on the north end of the downtown of Playa. This is also where there are some small, yet good restaurants because the rents are lower. Note: on the map below it has the old name of the previous restaurant in the location of this new restaurant.

  1. Had dinner here last week. Baja fish tacos were superb. Also had grilled shrimp with Chile threads that was wonderfully prepared and presented. Nice place – owner Roberto has a lot of passion for his food.

  2. I’ve been walking by this cute place for several weeks but was afraid to stop in because my Spanish is basic. I finally went with a few friends and boy am I sorry I didn’t try it sooner. The place is darling, the food is excellent and on a beautiful fall night, the outdoor seating was perfect. We started with one of their ceviche dishes and guacamole. Both were fresh, bright and delightful. I had the grilled fish with garlic (which was fried to perfection) that included a side of rice worth eating (!) and fresh veggies. The detail that went into the preparation and presentation was something I don’t get from restaurants back in the states – excellent flavors and so pretty too. One of my other friends had the baby octopus ((pulpio) which included a lovely fan of fresh tentacles. I didn’t try it but it looked great and my friend said it was tender and the freshest she had in PDC. Lastly were the 3 Baja style tacos – better than I’ve had in Baja. Fresh, hot with a lovely flavor. What we couldn’t get over was how fresh everything was – I know, I can’t stop using that word! . I overhead a man (the manager, owner?) explaining that they source their food every day, That must explain it. The only down side is that they don’t have a beer/wine license so only offer sodas, fruit drinks but considering the food is so good, I won’t that stop me from returning. Oh and that fear of not speaking Spanish? The waitress was lovely and between my limited Spanish and her limited English, we did just fine. Can’t wait to go back and see what other type of goodies they have.
